How do I make sure my site has good SEO ?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and more specifically "Local SEO" is one of the most important things that you can do for your properties. It is what helps you to achieve a higher listing in search results on Google when someone searches for properties within a certain area or near them. SEO can get very technical and can be scary.

Swifty takes this very seriously and we have leveraged our experience and knowledge of more than 15 years in the digital space to automate many of the more technical aspects of SEO. That being said, we understand that tools often get neglected especially when they are not understood.

In this article, we will walk you through the various tools and automation built into Swifty to help you have a better understanding of how we address this issue. We will also go through a checklist of best practices for you to follow as you build out your property website.

Structured schema

  1. What’s that? Structured Schema a.k.a. Schema markup or structured data is the language of search engines.
  2. Why is it important? It uses a unique semantic vocabulary and is code used to clearly provide information to search engines so that they better understand your content.
  3. How do we address it? Swifty takes the property information that you entered such as the property name, address, phone number and hours of operation and automatically produces the most comprehensive structured schema possible.

Meta descriptions

  1. What’s that? It is an HTML tag that is about 155 characters – which summarizes a pages content.
  2. Why is it important? Optimizing the meta description is crucial for on-page SEO. Search engines show the meta description in search results mostly when the searched-for phrase is within the description.
  3. How do we address it? Swifty automatically creates a meta description based on the first paragraph of the page. That said, you can customize and optimize the meta descriptions on each page in the SEO panel.

Title tags

  1. What’s that? A title tag is an HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. Title tags are displayed on search engine results pages (SERPs) as the clickable headline for a given result and are important for usability, SEO, and social sharing.
  2. Why is it important? Meta title tags are a major factor in helping search engines understand what your page is about, and they are the first impression many people have of your page. Title tags are used in three key places: (1) search engine results pages (SERPs), (2) web browsers, and (3) social networks.
  3. How do we address it? Swifty automatically creates a Title Tag based on the Property Name, City, State, and the page that you are on. That said, you can customize and optimize the Title Tag on each page in the SEO panel.

Page structure

  1. What’s that? This refers to the hierarchy of the content on the page. Starting at the top of the page with the main Headline and working down through the subheads and the body copy. 
  2. Why is it important? Header tags are often used to break up the content to make it easier to read. In reality, about 55% of visitors will only spend 15 seconds at most skimming your content.
  3. How do we address it? Swifty automatically sets the correct H tags on each page making sure that the page can easily be read by search engines.

Alt text

  1. What’s that?  Alt-text (alternative text), also known as "alt attributes", “alt descriptions", or technically incorrectly as "alt tags,” are used within an HTML code to describe the appearance and function of an image on a page. 
  2. Why is it important? Alt-text is a tenet of accessible web design. Its original (and still primary) purpose is to describe images to visitors who are unable to see them. 
  3. How do we address it? Swifty makes it easy to add Alt-text on every image through the image/video/file manager.

Site map

  1. What’s that? In simple terms, an XML sitemap is a list of your website’s URLs.
  2. Why is it important? It acts as a roadmap to tell search engines what content is available and how to reach it.
